The canvas was painted by Antonio Circignani known as Pomarancio in 1625.
The Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Mondaino was built in the eighteenth century. Tradition has it that it stands on the foundations of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Diana. However, there is no evidence in favor of this thesis.
