Englischer Titel: FLOWERS. STEFANO ARIENTI
|
26/03/2019 - 05/05/2019: Humanistic/artistic cultural events Exhibitions
Nur englische Beschreibung:
The review, a new chapter in the program of exhibitions of contemporary authors in one of the complexes most rich in history of the city, presents a series of works able to dialogue with the place that hosts them, that is with the vestiges and the presences of the past, from the antique furnishings to the stones of the era of Sant'Ambrogio, to the works of ancient art. For the occasion, Arienti has created a new work that compares with the large table of the Lamentation over the Dead Christ by Altobello da Melone (Cremona 1490/91-ante 1543), recently restored, coming from the Archbishop's Palace in Milan, and exceptionally exhibited at the Diocesan Museum.
The exhibition itinerary starts from the Early Christian Cemetery where a series of flowers painted in tempera on paper lead the visitor to reflect on the theme of the necropolis of Christian martyrs and on the practice of the cult of the dead, and continues in the Basilica of Saint Eustorgio; here you can see references to popular decoration, such as the carpets dyed in black or red in the Chapter Room and in the Monumental Sacristy, and rereadings of works of art such as the Girasoli and Iris by Van Gogh, whose bottoms, covered with sheets of gold and silver, recalling the continuity between still life painting and icons; so other masterpieces by Van Gogh and Renoir undergo Arienti's intervention which gives the plant an unusual depth through the use of plasticine which increases the materiality of the color.
