The Museum of the twentieth century, after the successful experience of last year with the photographic exhibition Conversations, is pleased to announce a second collaboration with Bank of America Merrill Lynch - the main sponsor of the museum, together with Finmeccanica - through an exhibition dedicated to one of the icons international post-war art, Andy Warhol (1928-1987). The exhibition space of the museum will host some of the most significant artist prints from the collection of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, which implements the loan under the program Art in Our Communities ®.
The stardust evoked by the title is not only the diamond powder used in many prints, but it is the ability to create icons Warhol shining and immortal. Through a chronological exhibition that begins with the printing on the seventies and ends with those created during the eighties, the exhibition is an opportunity to get back on some of the key stages of the artistic production of Warhol.
Starting from the famous series of prints in the late sixties and early seventies as Campbell's Soup, Flowers, Sunset, up to Grapes, Space fruits, the course highlights the serial production of prints in large part by assistants Factory and born to be sold, but that Warhol and retouched and finished with spasmodic attention. "My philosophy is: make a picture a day," said Warhol, and that was the beginning of the seventies and the eighties, when the force found his paintings, mainly oriented to portrait painting. From Muhammad Ali, Marilyn Monroe, the covers of "Interview" "his portraits are not documents of this as icons waiting for the future," as written by David Bourdon in 1975.
The faces and names that Warhol is, exhibit, do not belong only to people: in the range of his subjects appear even mythical characters - Myths -, comic book heroes and cartoon characters for which the technique, the size, the cutting of 'image and palette are the same as those used for real people. The method is the same: a horizontal view that perceives differences in treatment, for example, among the thinkers and leaders of the culture of the twentieth century - including Freud, Einstein, Gertrude Stein -, drag queens of New York's most fashionable, Santa Claus and Superman. Warhol's approach conforms and redistributes the weight, why stop at the surface makes all sufficiently attractive and above all equally important.
Rena De Sisto, CSR International and Global Arts & Culture Executive, Bank of America Merrill Lynch says: "Our company is committed to helping to bring people and cultures around the world through the powerful language and shared art. "
