Open Villas in Brianza is a project, born from an intuition of the Municipality of Vimercate in 2003 and developed by the Province of Monza and Brianza
through the Evolved Cultural District of Monza and Brianza, which this year reaches the 16th edition.
The territory of Brianza is characterized by the widespread presence of the "Ville Gentilizie", also called "villas of Delizia", homes built over the centuries by the rich Milanese families who spent their holidays and rest there.
The capillary presence on the area (both in urban and rural contexts), belonging to different historical and artistic periods, with the possibility to narrate diacronically the history of the territory, the uniqueness of certain structures, frescoes and gardens historians attribute to the Villas of Delight, considered as a whole - including the prestigious Villa Reale di Monza - a strategic role for the promotion of the territory.
The objective of "Ville Aperte in Brianza" is to offer an innovative format for the enhancement of the territory and the recovery of its identity by the community, with the extraordinary opening of over one hundred cultural heritage at the same time and through new ways of using it: Alongside the guided tours, events have been introduced that have been studied and realized ad hoc in cultural places in collaboration with the cultural associations active in the Brianza area.
The format of the event includes in September the opening with guided tour of the "villas of delight" of the territory: some of them are always open throughout the year and accessible by visitors, while others are not accessible for much of the time , so their extraordinary opening is a unique opportunity to visit and get to know them.
Methods and times of the visit are established by each reality independently.
The Provincial Authority deals with the coordination of the initiative and integrated communication.
The event has grown over time, coming to join this year in five Lombard Provinces a partnership consisting of over 70 public and private non-profit organizations, which allow more than 150 assets to be opened to the public.
