THE LAST SUPPER AFTER LEONARDO

Foto 28/05/2016 - THE LAST SUPPER AFTER LEONARDO
13/04/2023 - 21/05/2023: Humanistic/artistic cultural events Exhibitions

From 13 April to 21 May 2023, Fondazione Stelline presents the exhibition War of the Worlds by Aldo Spoldi, forty-five years after his first personal exhibition which took place in Milan in 1978. The exhibition, curated by Alberto Fiz, offers about twenty large works created from 1968 to 2022 that create a single installation of over 40 meters divided into two parts: a single act that winds along the entire exhibition space.

"Overcoming a chronological scan, Spoldi brings his imagination back into play through unprecedented relationships and unpredictable associations in the context of an exhibition eager to develop a process of perennial metamorphosis", says Alberto Fiz, curator of the exhibition. And it is Spoldi himself who recalls how «works and characters chase each other, socialize and dance free from sociology and temporality». Based on a circular vision of history, the artist creates a place of freedom where some of his most famous creations appear, such as the Banda del Marameo (1968), the Pickwick Club (1978), The War of the Buttons (1980), Virtual characters (1996), the Accademia dello Scivolo (2007), Cristina Karanovic Blue girl - "The history of the world, 2011, The challenge, 2022. «The works move, evolve, mate, reproduce. Rooted or rhizomatic they come forward, they form a line. They look like a squadron that sets off: 1968 gracefully attacks 1977, 1977 intends to command 2000 which in turn intends to counter 2023", says Spoldi in an ironic military metaphor which gives the title to the entire exhibition project, where everything is condensed in the uncertainty of the present. The hybridization of eras and styles gives rise to unpredictable dialogues involving works such as Buongiorno Signor Spoldi, exhibited in 1996 at the Rome Quadriennale, and the 'Harlequin painter, a large unpublished work of three meters, created specifically for this project at the Stelline Foundation. «The harlequin painter, even a bit of a swordsman, escapes out of the picture, out of the room, grows bigger and opens a visual epic poem in one breath», underlines Spoldi.
